The Tell-Time Dice

As our three units of light, sound, and time come to a close we start to reflect on all we've learned over the course of our many lessons. In the latest unit of time, we discussed the inner workings of different forms of time-telling devices and how we have adapted our ways of telling time since the first humans were introduced to the planet. Our assignment for our final project was to think of an original way to tell time and then advertise that idea through a homemade video to demonstrate how our clocks work and their appeal.

Below is a short two-minute video on my Tell-Time Dice and how I came up with the idea. This device gives you an audible sign that the hour of the day is changing and you work all day every day.

While the idea I had for the contraption was solid I still needed to do some equations to find the volume and an arc of the domed top of the clock.

The volume of the hemisphere used is (through calculating 2/3xpix4) 8.377 inches cubed.

The use of arcs can easily be applied at a multitude of angles within the dome as visualized below:

Although this was our last project so we knew it would be a bit rushed I really enjoyed the making of it and thought my idea was one that really stood out against the vast number of other insanely creative designs. If there was one thing I could do over I would want it to be my video because I think the mechanisms were not defined well enough and I feel like a lot of the technicalities are complicated but could be easily explained with a bit more research.
