My Personal Dialectic

In our class argument, we have just finished our final unit on synthesis, wrapping up our three-parted curriculum focused on what is the making of a good argument, how to identify a weak one, and different philosophies to how arguments grow and develop over time. The philosophy that was looked at in class was Hegel's law saying that an argument goes through a beginning thesis, a contradictory antithesis, and then comes to a compromise with a synthesis in the end. One of our class guests was a professor at the University of Illinois Chicago Professor Andy Clarno who talked to us on the arguments and development of racial inequity in our country and recent efforts to get rid of the current gang database in the city of Chicago. In the last week of class, we were assigned to think of a time when our views went through a change and then compose a small slideshow on it explaining.

The first topic that had come to my mind was the vast change I had gone through as a person over the last year or so but I felt it was too complicated, to sum up in a four-slide slideshow so I decided on my adventure with my gender identity and how it's changed up to this point.

It was strange to be so rushed on such a complex topic like this at the end of class but I was glad I had this chance to reflect on my journey so far. Social media, while it has been an amazing platform for those exploring their identities to find validation and a space to learn and grow as a person, is a place full of harmful opinions that could just lead someone off with the wrong idea. I am very glad about how far I've come in terms of confidence in myself and how put myself out into the world but I am sure there is still way more to be learned. If I had to do anything over I would have probably picked a topic that had a more easily identifiable antithesis but I'm happy with the work I've done here no matter.
