Drama Sonnet AP
This was one of the first drama classes I had ever taken part in. Reading Shakespeare was never an experience I had in grade school so getting to read an have a talk about his writing at a later time in school was really interesting. The main subject of discussion was on what we thought a shrew was. One of the characters Kate, is described as a shrew throughout the book and since she was one if not the main character we had a lot of time to analyze the character. Puttin it into my own words I believe that a shrew would be described back then as a woman who spoke back to authority, one not afraid to say whats on her mind at any moment no matter what the consequences entailed but generally speaking I believe it was quite rude and offensive to call someone a shrew. With this project we got to embody our own bit of rage and write a sonnet to a character in the book we disagreed with.
Below my sonnet named ¨Heed the Caw¨ has me writing a letter to Bianca, one of main characters, about how she should take action when she sees all the other male characters of the book trying to ¨tame¨ her sister Katherine. Just below that is a recording I did interpreting how i think the poem should sound.
Bianca, who I find at door of gen
Does call of man not pierce like caw of crow
No help for poor sister as things worsen
Slaying dignity like archer with bow
Better once than never, never too late
Cotton-headed be the bloke who bargains
Send your hand forth and aid the wounded Kate,
For she doth not know this crow have talons
They govern by which they think is fitter
And with ego of men so inflated
Primacy is served on silver platter
While strength of women underrated
To stand up or be gaper is greatest test,
Dear Bianca i wish you all the best
