Where I´m From

For this project we answered the guiding question where are we from. This project gave me the opportunity to reflect on how the place I live has impacted and shaped me into the person that I am now. Art has always meant a lot to me so I decided to create a water-color piece and poem representing the event that was both my personal event and historical event. While I am very creative I also care a lot about social justice. The event that I have chosen was the Women´s Rally of 2018. If my home has taught my anything it is to stand strong and to fight for what you believe in.

Below you will see a watercolor scene of determined people parading down the down town streets of Chicago as they hold their heads high. I thought to not color in the people because in my eyes everyone is marching together as one unit of great minds and eyes looking towards the future. I thought that I would describe the painting through a poem because I´ve always had a hobby of writing. At the bottom you will find the works cited for the project.

Where I´m From

What does it look like

It looks like an uprising

An uprising of truth

The street smelling of trials and justice

Our hearts

Only pounding louder

Our time is any time we make it

We taste exhaustion in our throats

¨God bless our freedom¨

But there is nowhere free to go

the determination

Seeping through the cracks in the asphalt

Chasing block after block

To our home town Chicago

We are here

We are strong

And we are getting closer

That is the teachings of where i'm from
